Chaberton Energy has a lot to be thankful for as we wrap up a brand-defining year.
Our team brought solar power projects online, increased the number of projects we have under development, and took several steps to advance Chaderton’s values of creativity, excellence and humanity. We also won industry awards, funded more community nonprofits, and launched a new brand and web site.
“In 2024 we’ve led successful solar development in communities in our home state of Maryland and beyond,” said Stefano Ratti, Chaberton’s founder and CEO. “Through community solar development and projects for businesses, we supported local causes, helped companies advance environmental goals, took some pressure off local power grids, and made affordable, clean energy accessible to many more Americans.”
Chaberton made clean energy a reality for a growing number of communities, powering up more solar energy arrays and beginning development on dozens of new projects in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Illinois, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, New Jersey and more.
After announcing that we had 100 projects under site control totaling 650+ megawatts of direct current (MWdc) electric generating capacity in January, the company now has more than 130 projects accounting for more than 700+ MWdc of capacity under site control and 1.5 GW in the development pipeline.
Through Chaberton Cares, we donated $116,000 across 16 nonprofits in communities where we developed new shared solar projects. Chaberton Cares is a program through which we donate $5,000 for every megawatt of new community solar we develop. And this number will keep growing: we expect to contribute more than $500,000 to community groups over the next two years.
We also rolled out a new brand and website to highlight our maturation as a public benefit corporation. The new brand helps us better serve our communities, customers, and industry partners while spotlighting our commitment to our values of creativity, excellence, and humanity.
In addition to building our project pipeline and our brand, we earned industry recognition for our growth and the quality of our work. Last month, Chaberton was named among Inc. Magazine’s 2024 “Best in Business.” This list recognizes companies that, through exceptional execution, have achieved significant milestones and core business wins.
Chaberton also was named America’s 34th fastest growing company on the Inc. 5000 by Inc. Magazine. This was in recognition of our 72x revenue growth since our founding in February 2020. Chaberton was the second-fastest growing company in Maryland on this year’s Inc. 5000, and the nation’s top community solar company.
In addition, our Chief Commercial and Sustainability Officer Erica Brinker was elected to the Board of Directors for the Coalition for Community Solar Access, and Chief Operating Officer Michael J. Doniger was named to the Chesapeake Solar and Storage Association’s Board of Directors.
Other select accomplishments:
- Chaberton used design and market innovations to energize three-in-one Project Catherine in Howard County, Maryland.
- Projects Crestone and Blackburn in Delaware were among the first community solar projects to break ground in the state.
- Chaberton received the first recommendation under Mayland’s Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity process, which fast tracks projects through the state’s Public Service Commission. This 7.65 MWdc project will be built in Jarrettsville.
- Other Maryland projects Lime Kiln (Howard County), Santa Rosa (Montgomery County), and Matterhorn (Baltimore County) all broke ground.
To be sure, Chaberton Energy has built momentum in 2024 and is heading into 2025 ready to power more progress in the clean energy transition.
