JOB DESCRIPTION

Founded in 2020 and headquartered in the greater Washington, D.C., area, Chaberton Energy is a public benefit corporation focused on developing sustainable infrastructure and renewable energy projects. We focus on developing small to mid-sized solar power facilities (<10 MW) both for our own portfolio and on behalf of third parties. Chaberton has more than 140 solar projects under site control and a growing development pipeline of 1.5 gigawatts of opportunities under assessment or negotiation. Our work ranges from site conception to full operations, emphasizing distributed energy, community solar, and commercial and industrial initiatives.

ROLE OVERVIEW:

We are looking for an exceptional Electrical Engineer / Development Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate would bring relevant experience and a structured, yet entrepreneurial, approach to developing a pipeline of high-quality projects across the United States.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with Chaberton engineering team to prepare and review high quality and optimized solar designs in a timely manner.
  • Audit and advance the development of assigned projects to construction-ready status.
  • Prepare and audit electrical utility interconnection applications and study processes across portfolio.
  • Conduct “bankable” productivity modeling via PVSyst.
  • Implement and improve solar/electrical design and performance testing standards.
  • Compile and deliver constraints maps, site plans, and layouts (kmz, CAD, GIS).
  • Coordinate outside engineering consultants and contractors; including bidding, contracting, and reviewing deliverables.
  • Maintain relationships with key equipment vendors and contractors.
  • Identify and implement path-forward methodologies to technical design hurdles; contribute to the team’s technical accuracy initiatives.
  • Create and steward engineering projects, including planset deliverables, schedule, and budget.
  • Work independently, with the project team, and with outside parties such as landowners, public agencies, equipment vendors, contractors, etc.
  • Support commercial and marketing efforts for assigned projects.
  • Plan, lead, and monitor “long lead” procurement activities (these are normally restricted to long lead items such as transformers, certain other electrical equipment, and potentially solar panels).
  • Prepare presentations for project reviews and decision-making meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors in electrical engineering/similar degree, or comparable experience.
  • Engineer-in-Training designation or comparable experience.
  • >>If relying on comparable experience for either of above, make this clear in your resume/cover letter.
  • At least 3 years’ full-time experience in either a project engineering or project management role.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills. Able to summarize complex issues and convey information effectively.
  • Able to create, review, and interpret technical documents and construction drawings.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Resourceful, curious, and proactive problem-solving attitude.
  • Able to collaborate with multiple disciplines including sales, engineering, permitting, and project origination.
  • Strong work ethic / desire to accomplish assigned tasks in a timely manner and meet / exceed milestones.
  • Proficient using Autodesk products (AutoCAD, Revit), Excel, MS Teams, and MS Project (or similar).
  • Ability to travel up to 15% of time.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional Engineer license, particularly in states with a community solar program.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in renewable energy in either a project engineering or project management role.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in solar industry.
  • Demonstrated success with direct impact on successfully reaching COD on solar projects Proficiency modeling solar productivity using PVSyst to include effects of topography and other factors on shading; able to describe pros/cons to various layouts and how to optimize project value.
  • Experience with solar industry engineering tools, such as: Google Earth, GIS tools, PVSyst, PVWatts, Helioscope, and AutoCAD plug-ins.
  • Successfully obtained / supported obtaining utility interconnection approvals/interconnection agreements or similar.
  • >>List specific utility experience and role(s).
  • Experience implementing or improving solar project designs or project management processes.
  • Power systems analysis using industry standard simulation software (SKM, eTap, EasyPower, etc.).
  • Understand latest trends in solar/solar+storage design and implications for distributed generation.

SALARY & BENEFITS

110k-130k, commensurate with experience and a comprehensive benefits package (see https://www.chaberton.com/careers/ for more benefits details).
