Solarpalooza the Game
A Fun and Engaging Way to Learn About Community Solar
At Chaberton, we believe that learning about clean energy should be fun, interactive, and engaging. That’s why we created Solarpalooza— a one-of-a-kind board game designed to introduce players to the exciting world of community solar development.
What is Solarpalooza?
Solarpalooza is an educational board game where players take on the role of solar developers, working to build projects, navigate real-world challenges, and bring affordable renewable energy to their communities. The goal? Be the first to acquire 1,000 customers while successfully managing project development, policy shifts, and industry surprises along the way.

How the Game Works
Players move through two key phases:
Development Phase: Acquire land, permits, interconnection, and equipment to assemble solar projects. Players can also hire experts—like electrical engineers and procurement agents—to optimize their strategy.
Installation & Customer Acquisition Phase: Once projects are built, players connect with residential, commercial, and low-to-moderate-income customers, growing their solar impact while navigating incentives, policy shifts, and unexpected challenges.
With every turn, players make strategic decisions to advance their projects, adapt to industry changes, and compete to expand solar access.

Why We Created Solarpalooza
Community solar plays a critical role in making clean energy accessible and affordable for all—but understanding how it works can be complex. Solarpalooza transforms these real-world challenges into an engaging experience, allowing players to step into the shoes of solar developers and see firsthand how projects come to life.

Experience Solarpalooza
Solarpalooza isn’t for sale, but it plays an important role in our outreach and education efforts. Whether we’re at a conference or community event, this game helps break down the solar development process in a fun and memorable way.
